Identity Poem

I am Emilie

Emily, the most common baby name in 2002
Every american girl born at this time shares my name
Except/But I am Emilie, with french spelling
To fit into a place that is not the United States.

I am Emilie Grey

A confused third culture kid
Who doesn’t belong to any country
My passport says America
But my heart says the opposite
I have never lived there and don't feel any connection whatsoever towards the country

I am Emilie Grey Samuelson

Growing up in foreign lands
Speaking French at school
and English at home
Learnt Arabic through countries i’ve lived in during my life

I am Emilie Grey Samuelson Barrera

Blonde and blue eyed but Mexican
I speak zero Spanish
And can’t communicate with my mother’s side of the family
But carry the passion in my blood

I am a stranger to the world

In Abu Dhabi I am ‘american’
In America i’m a foreigner
In Mexico I am a tourist
And in France I am an intruder

Therefore who am I? And where am I from?
