All about me
You might see me with a volleyball in my hand or in the pool swimming laps, but what do you really know about me? That doesn’t even begin to describe my personality and interests. That is exactly why I have chosen to write this blog. This platform allows me to dive deeper and further explain my passions and opinions about certain topics.
But first of all let's get the basic facts out of the way. My name is Emilie and I'm fifteen. My mom is from Mexico and my dad is American, but I've lived overseas my whole so I don't feel like I'm 'from' either of those countries. I love playing sports, pretty much any sport. When I get stressed and worked up about school and work, doing exercise really helps me de-stress and stay balanced.
People who don't know me might think that I am an introvert but actually I am a complete extrovert and love spending time with the people I love. I care deeply about my close friends and family and would never do anything that would affect those relationships. Especially having real conversations, where I can get to know the person on a deeper level. Rather than having several acquaintances where the only interaction is in the hallways saying hi and never getting to know them personally.
Growing up in Morocco is definitely not the typical lifestyle of a western child. Although it has shaped who I have become. Going to a French school for most of my life taught me to be formal and respectful and really allowed me to connect with their culture. Especially since my parents learnt the moroccan dialect of arabic and were able to communicate with everyone. Even living in Abu Dhabi has allowed me to be incredibly grateful for having the opportunity to meet people from completely different backgrounds and grow up as a third culture kid.
Language has and will always play a huge role in my life. It honestly has made my life so much richer. I've grown up with several languages being spoken around me, including: French, Spanish and Arabic. I find every language fascinating and strive to become fluent in as many as possible throughout my life. I love the idea of communicating with several people from different backgrounds and learning about their cultures and values.
I care deeply about inequality and notice it everywhere. Whether that is in relationships, wealth or the world, in general. Life's not fair and won’t ever be fair, but I still struggle to comprehend how often people are treated unfairly. Wishing I could change certain issues, such as the gender pay gap.
My goal for this year, through this literature class, is to become a faster reader. At the moment I don’t necessarily enjoy reading but have always enjoyed english classes. Therefore learning to love reading and expanding my vocabulary would be a target of mine.
